GWF Battleground Zero 2001

Broadcast on 18th March 2001

The Holy Army defeated Tables Inc. and Mark Steele when Grayson pinned
Rhodes with the Moral Standard in 0:05:48.
Rating: * 3/4
La Muerte Roja pinned El Guerrero De La Luna with the Diamond Dust in 0:10:26.
Rating: **** 1/4
(La Muerte Roja retained the GWF Cruiserweight Title.)
La Muerte Roja made his first title defence against El Guerrero De La Luna
a successful one here tonight, in an excellent, fast-paced match. Both men
went back and forth, but it was a missed handspring elbow by Guerrero that
cost him the match, as Roja quickly locked him up and drilled him with the
Diamond Dust for the win.
Neil Johnson defeated Maelstrom by disqualification in 0:06:28.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Neil Johnson retained the GWF North American Title.)
Johnson has Maelstrom in the Atlanta Deathlock!!! It's over!
Maelstrom is screaming in pain, but he's fighting it. He's near the ropes!
Tim Coxon is asking him if he wants to give up........No!
He's in the ropes! He made it to the ropes and Johnson lets go!!
Johnson is measuring Maelstrom for a lariat...no! Harbinger!!!.
What a counter by Maelstrom! He hit the Harbinger and Johnson is out!!
Maelstrom is pulling himself to his feet now! All he has to do is cover him!
Wait a minute!! It's Scott Sharpe! The Ticking Time Bomb is in the ring....
Sharpe just drilled Johnson with an elbowdrop, and Coxon is calling for a DQ!!
Maelstrom can't believe what just happened! Sharpe has cost him the match!
"And the winner of this match as a result of a disqualification............
and still GWF North American Champion....NEIL JOHNSON!"
Scott Sharpe has cost Maelstrom the match! Oh my!
The winner is Neil Johnson. Time of match: 0:06:28
A few weeks ago, Maelstrom attacked Scott Sharpe after they had tagged together.
That act came back to haunt him tonight, as "The Ticking Time Bomb" exploded on
the scene of Maelstrom's title shot, as Sharpe attacked Neil Johnson to get
Maelstrom disqualified. Maelstrom was livid afterwards, and reports suggest that
Johnson was none-to-happy with the ending of this match either.

the Rocker Dropper in 0:09:35.

(Canadian Rage won the GWF World Tag Team Titles.)
Canadian Rage became the first ever GWF Tag Team Champion tonight after defeating
The Midnight Express in this encounter. The Express seemed dominant and on their
way to victory when Reed hit a Rocker Dropper out of nowhere and got the
surprise pinfall on a stunned Dan Masters.

deserved his victory. Other notable performances came from Hiroshi Kajimoto,
Shane Stevens and Eddie Colt, who made a considerable amount of eliminations.
2 Out Of 3 Falls Match for the vacant GWF World Heavyweight Title:
Paul Maloney beat Adam Collins 2 falls to 1:
x Maloney beat Collins via an armbar neckbreaker in 0:13:48
x Collins beat Maloney via the Original Sin in 0:20:34
x Maloney beat Collins via the Crossface Submission in 0:35:45
Rating: **** 3/4
(Paul Maloney won the GWF World Heavyweight Title.)
The GWF has crowned it's inaugural world champion, and it's "The Shooter"
Paul Maloney, the former WWF, WCW and TWF Champion. Adam Collins took
Maloney to the limit in this 2 out of 3 falls match, even pinning Maloney
with the Original Sin in the second fall, but the focused attack by Maloney
on Collins arm proved decisive, as he was able to lock on the Crossface
Submission, leaving Collins no option but to tap out in the deciding fall,
handing Maloney the title. There is no doubt Maloney is worthy of the title,
but the question is, who is going to take it off him?
