Neil JohnsonHeight: 5' 10" Weight: 220lbs Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia Finisher: Atlanta Deathlock (Regal Stretch) GWF Titles held: GWF North American Champion (current) Neil Johnson is a very accomplished wrestler. In 1998, Johnson became the NCAA Amateur Wrestling Champion, then two years later at the Sydney Olympics he followed in the footsteps of Kurt Angle by winning the Gold Medal in the freestyle wrestling. Johnson was soon being tracked by every wrestling federation in the country, and had meetings with Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff. However, it was his meeting with Dan Roberts that impressed him most, and he happily signed with the fledgling GWF, and was instrumental in the media coverage it's launch received. Johnson's amateur background shines through in his in-ring offense. Many of his moves could be seen at the Olympics themselves. He likes to finish his opponents with a move he calls the Atlanta Deathlock (a version of the STF made famous by Steven Regal), but other match-winning moves in his repertoire include a German Suplex, a Northern Lights Suplex, a bridging back suplex and a rolling reverse cradle. Johnson also teams with "Captain America" Shane Stevens, forming The Patriots. A hugely popular team, they play to the fans and like to beat their opponents with a Stacked Up Superplex. Johnson became the first ever GWF North American Champion on 26th February 2001 by winning a 10 Man Total Elimination Match, cementing his growing reputation in the fed. |
